It would almost feel antiquated if Future weren't amassing hits, or if he weren't bringing some subtle new dimensions to the micro-genre. Though Future had told MTV that Streetz Calling would be his final mixtape prior to the release of his debut studio album, another mixtape, Astronaut Status , was released in January Like, he was out of jail a day and he jumped straight on the 'Magic' record without me even knowing about it. It was announced that Future will be repackaging his debut album Pluto on November 27, under the name Pluto 3D featuring 3 new songs and 2 remix songs including the remix for "Same Damn Time" featuring Diddy and Ludacris, as well as his newest street single "Neva End Remix " featuring Kelly Rowland.
On January 15, , Future released the compilation mixtape F. It was certified platinum for having over , downloads on popular mixtape site DatPiff. On Valentine's Day , Future announced via Instagram that his self-titled fifth studio album would be released on February 17, Both albums went number one consecutively, which made Future the first artist to debut two albums at number one at the same time on the Billboard and Canadian Albums Chart. Future curated the soundtrack for the movie Superfly film , which was released in June The album consists of 20 songs and was promoted by a film titled The Wizrd , released on January 11 on Apple Music.
Future makes prevalent use of Auto-Tune in his songs, both rapping and singing with the effect. Pitchfork Media wrote that Future "miraculously shows that it's still possible for Auto-Tune to be an interesting artistic tool", stating that he "finds a multitude of ways for the software to accentuate and color emotion".
Rapper T-Pain, who also uses that audio processor, criticized Future's unconventional use of it in I used it to rap because it makes my voice sound grittier. Now everybody wants to rap in Auto-Tune. As of , Wilburn is being sued by both Jessica Smith and Ciara.

His stage name is derived from Khalifa, an Arabic word meaning "successor", and wisdom, which was shortened to Wiz when Khalifa was a young boy. By the age of 15 he was regularly recording his music in a studio called I. Also, this allowed him to receive more exposure at such a young age than other artists. In April , Boosie announced that his sixth studio album Touchdown 2 Cause Hell would be released on July 15, , but was later pushed back to September 23, The album would be delayed yet again, until he unveiled the track list and announced a May 26th release date on April 22, The project was largely conceptualized by Boosie's brother and manager Taquari "TQ" Hatch who serves as executive producer on the project. The project from the two Louisiana rappers is scheduled to be released April 15, TQ felt there would be a need to reestablish the brand as a music company that would be able to sign artist in the future who were more diverse and even international.
On October 22, , Boosie was arrested after East Baton Rouge sheriff's deputies found marijuana and a glock in his car. Boosie pled guilty to his third-offense possession of marijuana charge on September 22, and was sentenced to two years in prison the next day.
Judge James Moore doubled the sentence on November 10 after finding Boosie had violated probation while awaiting sentencing. Between his plea and sentencing, Boosie was electronically monitored and placed under house arrest.
On June 17, , Boosie was indicted on charges on first-degree murder of Terry Boyd. He also faced charges for three counts of possession with intent to distribute narcotics Schedule II: codeine and cocaine; Schedule I: marijuana , three counts of "conspiracy to commit possession with intent to distribute narcotics", and two counts of "conspiracy to introduce contraband into a penal institution".
He has stated that he is innocent of these charges. District Attorney Hillar Moore stated that the killing seemed to be "over turf". If convicted, Boosie could have faced the death penalty. Prosecutors also stated that they believed the rapper may have been involved in at least five other murders. On June 28, Boosie entered a not-guilty plea in a Louisiana court room.
While Boosie's defense addressed the fact that the rapper has several ongoing cases, they emphasized that he is not a murderer and rested their case without bringing any witnesses. The jury in the case came to a unanimous not-guilty verdict on the murder charge after less than 10 minutes deliberation. On November 29, , Boosie was sentenced to eight years in state prison after pleading guilty to the drug charges.
On May 11, , a jury found Boosie not guilty of first degree murder. On December 7, , his attorneys were able to argue that the drug ring charge was a set up: the informant offered to provide codeine syrup for Boosie, an admitted codeine addict, in exchange for his help.
